Pet Portraits by Roger Burnay

Coloured Pencils are an excellent way to portray any animal whether fur or feathered. Using the Derwent full range of specialist Artist, Studio and Coloursoft Pencils with a choice of 120 colours allows me to highlight the many hues of colours found within the animals coat. I can be using anything up to 20-25 different colours on any one portrait to achieve the subtle graduations and textures found, almost drawing in every hair and thus making the picture become alive. In fact one of my clients said “ you feel as if you can put your hand into the picture and stroke him”.

I tend to do all Coloured Pencil Portraits on heavy white Italian Fabriano 140lb Paper. This type of portrait needs to be framed under glass for further protection.
